Insect Resistance In Field Crops

نویسندگان

چکیده

Insect resistant crop plants form the core component of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) due to their ability reduce losses and associated insecticide costs in addition protecting environment. In this review, various types resistance being cited, mechanisms causal factors responsible with examples were discussed. Traits resistance, genetics inheritance patterns listed. Several sources including varieties, wild relatives, QTLs identified mapped for major insect pests so far elaborated along steps development a variety. Advantages limitations also discussed emphasis on biotypes. Novel strategies molecular approaches like marker assisted selection, gene pyramiding, RNAi approach genome editing emphasized. The crops is sustainable way manage hence need be given breed trait specific cultivars utilizing novel future breeding programs.

Delaying insect resistance to transgenic crops.

I n her seminal work, Silent Spring, Rachel Carson writes: ‘‘If Darwin were alive today the insect world would delight and astound him with its impressive verification of his theories of survival of the fittest. Under the stress of intensive chemical spraying the weaker members of the insect populations are being weeded out.’’ (1) Evolution of insecticide resistance in 400 species of insects no...

Assessment of insecticide resistance in five insect pests attacking field and vegetable crops in Nicaragua.

Field populations of Hypothenemus hampei (Ferrari), Plutella xylostella (L.), Spodoptera exigua (Hübner), Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) and Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) were tested for resistance to several insecticides commonly used in Nicariagua. Assays were conducted to estimate the LD50s or LC50s and the corresponding resistance ratios. A diagnostic concentration was used to discriminate between s...

Insect-associated fungi in soils of field crops and orchards

Insect-pathogenic fungi are important natural enemies of insect pests but their dynamics in the soils of different agroecosystems are incompletely understood. In the present study, the seasonal occurrence and species diversity of insect-associated fungi in soil were investigated by baiting soil samples with larvae of Galleria mellonella. The survey included insect-pathogenic fungi, opportunisti...

Field-evolved insect resistance to Bt crops: definition, theory, and data.

Transgenic crops producing Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) toxins for insect pest control have been successful, but their efficacy is reduced when pests evolve resistance. Here we review the definition of field-evolved resistance, the relationship between resistance and field control problems, the theory underlying strategies for delaying resistance, and resistance monitoring methods. We also analy...

Natural Enemies Delay Insect Resistance to Bt Crops

We investigated whether development of resistance to a Bt crop in the presence of a natural enemy would be slower than without the natural enemy and whether biological control, in conjunction with a Bt crop, could effectively suppress the pest population. Additionally, we investigated whether insecticide-sprayed refuges of non-Bt crops would delay or accelerate resistance to the Bt crop. We use...
